The Department is committed to empowering individuals through employment-related services, skill development, and entrepreneurship opportunities. It aims to equip our workforce with the necessary skills and knowledge to excel in today’s competitive job market. Our efforts are focused on ensuring seamless coordination between various stakeholders, including employers, job seekers, and training institutions.

Our Duties and Responsibilities

The Employment Exchanges are responsible for a range of important tasks and functions in the field of employment and job-seeking. The primary duties include:

    1. Enforcing the Compulsory Notification of Vacancies (CNV) Act, 1959, to ensure that employers notify vacant job positions.
    1. Registration of Job-seekers, providing a platform for individuals to register themselves as job-seekers and access employment opportunities.
    1. Compilation and dissemination of various statistical data like Employment Market Information (EMI), which includes information from both the public and private sectors.
    1. Sponsoring candidates for various notified vacancies, connecting qualified job-seekers with suitable job opportunities.
    1. Self-Employment Promotion Cell (SEPC): The Self-Employment Promotion Cell at Regional Employment Exchange, Kohima is responsible for coordinating activities related to promoting self-employment opportunities.
    1. Physically Handicapped Cell: A special cell dedicated to the employment needs for the differently-abled was established with central assistance at the Regional Employment Exchange in Kohima.
    1. Employment Market Information (EMI): Under the Employment Exchanges (Compulsory Notification of Vacancies) Act 1959, Employment Exchanges are empowered to collect employment statistics from both public and private sectors employing more than 24 individuals. Additionally, on a voluntary basis, collection of information from private sector units employing 10 to 24 individuals is undertaken. It is important to note that the employment market information (EMI) program may not provide an accurate picture of employment as it does not include all establishments in the private sector, military establishments, the High Court, and the State Legislative Assembly.
    1. Model Career Centers (MCCs): As part of the National Career Service project of the Ministry of Labour & Employment, Government of India, the process of establishing Model Career Centers (MCCs) at Employment Exchanges in Kohima, Mokokchung, Phek, Wokha, Dimapur, Mon, and Tuensang, to offer a wide range of employment-related services. These centers are dedicated to providing comprehensive support and guidance throughout the employment process.

 

In addition to these core responsibilities, Employment Exchanges also provide additional services to support individuals in their career journeys. This includes: 

    1. Career Counseling & Vocational Guidance, offering guidance and support to individuals in making informed career decisions. 
    1. Conducting school & college talks on various career options, helping students explore different career paths and make informed choices for their future.
